About Ya Boi
Hey! My name is Winson and I’m an artist and designer that graduated from RRC Game Development and Digital Media Design programs. I specialize in 3DCG and Character Art.In my game dev journey, I have had the pleasure of working with a variety of talented artists, designers, and programmers to make video games. I’m currently doing freelance commission + contract work, mostly related to game art. I have previous experience working at Bit Space Development as a 3D Artist and Art Heroes as a Junior Content Creator. Additionally I have experience as a Professional Wrestler, Theatre Stage Manager, and Personal Trainer/Coach.
Origin Story
It all began at a young age when I was introduced to wrestling video games on the SNES and PS1. Ever since then I had two dreams: being a pro wrestler and being involved with making video games. After high school I saved up my money working for a year before heading to Calgary, Alberta, Canada to train at the Storm Wrestling Academy. After graduating I had the opportunity to wrestle for various promotions across Canada, most notably Premier Championship Wrestling in Winnipeg, where I became the heavyweight champion and poster-boy.
I was already creating characters, storylines, move-sets, and fight sequences in my head all my life and now I was executing it using pro wrestling as that creative medium. Additionally, I was also designing my gear and graphics, while editing my own promotional videos.Retrospectively this really foreshadows my path into 3DCG and video games. When the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown happened I explored my other options and took the leap of faith to get into game development. I worked hard to get accepted in a very competitive program and the moment I touched 3D it changed my perspective on everything. I couldn’t believe this whole new world of 3D and being able to create characters, worlds, animations, and stories for others to experience in virtual space. Since then I haven’t looked back.
Learning about art fundamentals and game design became my hobby while I was studying full-time in the craft of 3D and game production. The field incredibly deep with no limits. The creative potential in this field is only capped by time and resources. I have passion in many aspects of creative arts, and I even began a YouTube channel showcasing my journey as a game dev student.I strive to continue working with exceptional people to create visions and dreams together that are larger than what a single person can do. All the while, pushing myself and creating art and connecting with others through different mediums.
Take a glimpse at the artist behind the art on my YouTube channel where I vlog and share my journey. My channel is an authentic and transparent showcase of my artistic journey and experiences in the realm of game development and creative arts.
